Location: 6th Street Community Center
638 East 6th Street (Ave's B-C, near C)
Come and connect with the spirit of sound and welcome back the film festival with us. This movie is an inspiration for humanity and for our upcoming TUVAN throat singing concert event and workshops in November.
A blind San Francisco blues singer's journey to becoming a master of Tuvan throat singing is the subject of Roko and Adrian Belic's Oscar-nominated documentary. Paul Pena became fascinated with the Tuvan art form after hearing it on a Russian radio broadcast; he then met the Mongolian masters on a U.S. tour. The Tuvans were so impressed with Pena that they invited him to Tuva's annual singing competition; his adventures there form the heart of Genghis Blues. (Winner Sundance Film Festival).
Directed by Roko and Adrian Belic, featuring Paul Pena, Kongar-ol Ondar, B.B. King (1999), 88 minutes.
